On October 23, 2010, La Casa del Mexicano hosted the 50th Miss Mexico Los Angeles beauty pageant. A cultural institution of the Mexican-American community of Los Angeles, the contest raises money for a food drive that takes place during Christmas and benefits the residents in need of East L.A. Once a glamorous affair, with high-profile attendees, the event has recently seen hard economic times and faces an uncertain future.
